Demolishing a building is not just about concrete: Once the walls are exposed and collapsed, various materials need to be treated or reclaimed: wood, steel, plaster, asbestos, and more. All these materials must be managed, and their disposal is now highly regulated. So, how do you safely evacuate, treat, and store them?
For our client, a specialist in all types of demolition, having appropriate equipment is crucial and is part of the high-quality service they offer to their clients. To support their projects in France and Luxembourg involving demolition, asbestos removal, and selective deconstruction, the company equipped itself to manage the work up to the reclamation of materials from the deconstruction process.
It's with the aim of equipping their site for material management that the demolition company sought OTEXIO's expertise.
WHAT WAS THE ISSUE ? For one of their projects involving reclaiming wood and reselling it to a local heating plant, our client quickly needed to equip their site with watertight compartments for wood storage.
As dismantled wood arrives on the site in pallets or large sections, it needs to be sheltered from the elements to retain its value. With a continuous flow of wood, it's necessary to ensure that all stock can be protected from the weather before being shredded into smaller sections for resale.
SOLUTION PROVIDED BY OTEXIO : After several years of collaboration with OTEXIO on waste and material transport, container covers, and other solutions, our client thought to leverage our expertise and benefit from the ONE STOP SHOP approach: a single supplier for waste management solutions.
Following the successful trial of a first mobile covering building, the
RCOVER®BLOCKS, for storing fiber cement sheets, the company found the solution ideal for managing and covering their waste. They asked us to install two more retractable systems on concrete compartments: one to store large wood sections upstream, the other to store shredded wood in smaller sections for resale. All while ensuring the material remains dry and valuable with OTEXIO's 100% watertight
RCOVER®BLOCKS system.
The compartment, over 7.20m long and 7.20m wide, allows loading equipment to place and retrieve the material without constraints. With its 4m height, the
RCOVER®BLOCKS covers the material when closed, but also allows for ample maneuvering space for equipment when open.
The process is simple: wood is protected from the weather, and the site is equipped and secured to transform materials into valuable resources in a second life.
The compartments are easy to open and close with a rail system tailored to the constraints of treatment sites.
CLIENT FEEDBACK :
The client had several requirements: regular and easy opening and closing of the compartment, allowing loading equipment into the compartment, and a mobile and removable solution. The RCOVER®BLOCKS appeared as the ideal solution for this challenge. Moreover, since the RCOVER®BLOCKS is not considered a full-fledged building, it offers genuine flexibility in construction and usage. Additionally, as a municipal regulation restricted structures over 6.5m high on their site, our client saw another advantage in the RCOVER®BLOCKS.
Custom-made and assembled by the client themselves, with assembly instructions provided by our design office, the system offers unparalleled flexibility and versatility of use. The waterproof cover provided by the PU cover and the rail system allow our client to store their wood and other materials worry-free.
The demolition company plans to install more systems in 2023 for the storage and management of contaminated soil.
